Te Taiwhenua o Tamatea is proud to confirm our hosting responsibility for the Te Kahu o Te Amorangi Ngāti Kahungunu Kapa Haka Regionals 2026, which will be hosted here in Waipukurau, Tamatea. Our theme is ‘He toi whakairo, he mana tangata. Where there is artistic excellence, there is human dignity - By Piri Sciascia. This whakatauākī reminds us to critically reflect on the central role that artistic expression holds within Māoridom. To operate at a level of creative and artistic excellence is to welcome new knowledge, approaches and ideologies
This prestigious event is a cornerstone of our iwi’s cultural calendar, celebrating the vitality of te reo Māori, tikanga, and the performing arts that unite our people across generations.
The regionals provide a vital platform for whānau, hapū, and iwi to showcase excellence in kapa haka, strengthen identity, and inspire rangatahi to carry forward our traditions. Hosting the event in Tamatea is both an honour and a responsibility, and we are committed to ensuring its success. We will be welcoming over 10,000+ people during the event. We welcome all from near and far to join us. Nau mai, haramai.
