Deva Mahal

Deva Mahal

She’s performed at Carnegie Hall, shared the stage with legends including Björk, Etta James and Fat Freddy’s Drop, and now internationally acclaimed Deva Mahal is bringing her powerhouse voice to Hawke's Bay this October, for one night only.

Born into music as the daughter of Grammy Award-winning American blues icon Taj Mahal, Deva's sound blends the warmth of soul, the depth of blues, and a bold, contemporary edge that’s all her own. Her music is known for its ability to express profound joy and deep sorrow, often leaving audiences moved to tears.

From small venues to some of the world’s biggest festivals - including Bonnaroo, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Montreal Jazz Festival - Deva has built a reputation as one of the most magnetic voices in modern soul. Her debut album Run Deep put her on the global map, and her latest single South Coast - created with fellow artists Estère, Scott Jacoby and Andy Kravitz - has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Silver Scroll Kaitito Kaiaka Award, recognising the best in New Zealand songwriting.

Following a sold-out European tour and a headline appearance at the 2025 Wellington Fringe Festival, Deva Mahal's Hawke’s Bay performance as part of the 2025 Hawke's Bay Arts Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Aotearoa’s most distinctive voices.
