CHB District Libraries Holiday Programme - Whare Whetū Star Dome Experience

Step inside the star dome and journey into the stars this Matariki!

This special experience invites tamariki (ages 5–12) to explore Ngā Tohu o te Tau Hou – the signs of the Māori New Year.

Children will start their Matariki journey through storytelling and music. Then the children will move through to the immersive star dome, children will discover the stories of Matariki, learn about the night sky, and connect to traditional Māori knowledge of astronomy and navigation.

Important information:

Sessions are 1 hour long
5 sessions available – bookings essential
Suitable for children aged 5–12 years only
Due to limited space, adults are not permitted inside the dome but are welcome to wait nearby.

This is a unique, interactive way for children to celebrate Matariki through learning, culture, and creativity.
