Midwinter Hip Drop

The MIDWINTER HIP DROP

Here to warm up the cool winter nights with non-stop shimmies and breathtaking hip drops. Tonight we celebrate and showcase the belly dance community of Te Matau-a-Māui, Hawke’s Bay.

Featuring local groups Bellishus and Mangla Tribal Fusion, alongside a lineup of solo performers, this show also welcomes acclaimed guest artists from across Aotearoa.

Belly dance, or Raqs Sharqi, is a cultural dance form with roots in the Middle East and North Africa. Known for its intricate isolations, musicality, and expressive movement, it continues to evolve across traditional and contemporary styles.

Join us for a night of dynamic performances and unapologetic shimmying.
