The celebration is about much more than entertainment. It aims to help children learn Punjabi with pride, strengthen connections between generations, preserve language and heritage, and introduce Punjabi culture to the wider community.
The wider week's programme has also included activities through Hastings and Napier city libraries such as Punjabi-themed crafts, henna sessions, cultural dance demonstrations, Indian sweets and chai, and a samosa-making demonstration
