Linden Singers Concert

Each year the Linden Singers produce two concerts May and November. We are well into rehearsals now for our November 15th concert.

This not to be missed concert is titled " Never Shaken" songs of Constancy ,Love and Wonder.

The choir’s Musical Director, Jane Pierard, says “Constancy sometimes seems to be a rare commodity these days as we live in times of never-ending change. Defined as steadiness, ongoing familiarity (such as the regular changes of the seasons, or the movement of tides) constancy brings us reassurance and confidence.” She has chosen many songs in the program for the expression of this theme in their words in genres ranging from sacred contemporary to German romantic, gentle Latin jazz to Klezmer.
The idea of constancy is beautifully expressed in Shakespeare’s Sonnet number 116. He wrote “Love …… is an ever fixēd mark, that looks on tempests and is never shaken”. We are delighted that Jane has set Shakespeare's words to music that she has composed. Some of the songs we will sing are long-time favourites; examples are the arrangement of The Lord is my Shepherd which was the theme for the TV series The Vicar of Dibley, and a medley from that classic musical My Fair Lady. Songs from around the world, including Rachmaninov’s beautiful setting of the Hymn to the Virgin and Brahms’ arrangement of the German folk song In Stiller Nacht, will remind us that the festive season is not far away. And, as always in a Linden Singers concert, there will also be some jazzy beats and one or two special guest performances. Do come, for an afternoon of beautiful music expressing constancy, love and wonder.
