Machine de Cirque

Machine de Cirque

“Endlessly inventive, ridiculously energetic, child-friendly yet racier than an MP’s browsing history… Machine de Cirque has it all.”*

Completely alone in the world, a group of men set out to contact other survivors using a strange machine.

The problem? They’re far too easily distracted by their own flights of fantasy, competitive streaks and talent for getting themselves into perilous situations.

Direct from Québec, Canada, internationally acclaimed contemporary circus company Machine de Cirque arrives at Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival with a wildly inventive performance blending jaw-dropping acrobatics, live music, humour and physical comedy.

Poetic, reckless, touching and hilarious all at once, Machine de Cirque has captivated audiences around the world with performances that push the boundaries of contemporary circus while never losing their sense of humanity.

Teeterboards, juggling clubs, drum kits and bath towels become instruments for extraordinary feats of athleticism and absurdity, as the cast navigate a strange universe through courage, chaos and an infectious bond with one another.

Following more than 700 performances across Europe, Asia and North America, Machine de Cirque arrives at Toitoi – Hawke’s Bay Arts & Events Centre this October as one of the headline acts of Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival 2026.

“”[...] you’ll likely find yourself wearing a goofy smile as a quartet of high-spirited circus artists and one energetic percussionist team up to deliver an inspired performance of acrobatics and broad comedy.” The Boston Globe

"Machine de Cirque [...] is a seventy-minute show that goes by in the blink of an eye, with five performers who appear to be three times as many, in a multitude of inventive, musical, poetic, funny and clownish vignettes." Huffpost
